Ok folks here it is: thee 2009 Challenge. This is where you can track our progress and share your own story. In the interest of not having 80 separate entries, we will post all of our info for this challenge in the comments section. We will devote the radio show entirely to all thing Paleo Diet this Wednesday 1/07/2009. Listen at www.gtownradio.com at 7pm

The details: Vince and I as well as our listeners willing to take up the gauntlet will be following the Paleo Diet for 30 days. The Paleo diet is based on the books of the same name by Dr. Loren Cordain. Basically it is eating how we are genetically designed to eat (only lean meat, vegetables, fruits, nuts and berries). NO PROCESSED FOOD!!!!
The diet is very easy, but here are a few sites to help with the details:

  1. Tuesday Jan 6th update.
Dinner last night of spicy honey chicken and steamed broccoli. YUM.

Started out this morning with some green tea and lemon. It's about 11am and I have had a handful of boiled chicken, 5 strawberries, a banana and about 10 walnuts.

I can honestly say I am not starving and feel pretty good...

  2. The 1st comment here is actually Vince, but here I go. I have been lax with posting my eating but I have been pretty good so far, one thing I am noticing b/c I did a big workout yesterday that I need to up my calories a bit on those days (and account for the fact that I am losing some calories by not eating bread and or crap). Last night I was starving at like 9pm eventhough I had a nice dinner at 6:30pm of Arctic char (fish), asparagus, and baby bok choi which are the bomb!!!

  3. baby bok choi? Holy Pete! Damien is living the high life...
Dinner has consisted of spicy garlic chicken which is just OUTSTANDING. Jen found the recipe in the Paleo diet book but it will now be in our regular rotation.
So far today I have had some walnuts and strawberries and a banana - I cheated a little bit and had a spoonfull of peanut butter with the banana.

Todays lunch will be romaine salad w/ spinach and apples. This involves more preparation than I'm used too. This diet will push you out of your laziness tendencies.

Down 6 pounds as of this morning, which is crazy b/c I ate a lot when I got home last night after the show at 9pm a bad time to eat but I had 3 spicy Italian turkey sausages cooked in tomato sauce w/ onions and squash. Freakin' Phenomenal!!! Much of the initial weight is water weight.

    As for today so far:
Breakfast: 2 eggs and a handfull of raw broccholi. Snack, small handful of almonds and walnuts, with some more raw broccholi. Lunch mixed veggies with some lean shreaded steak , and one slice of cheese(this stuff is dirt cheap and great) all wrapped in a few whole lettuce leaves. It was literally a bad ass steak sandwitch w/o a roll. Must eat a small snack now eventhough I am still full, so I am not starving when I go home.

  5. Weight has flown off of me, just like Damien. Down 11 pounds as of yesterday. My days have consisted of walnuts and fruit (bananas or apples, etc) for breakfast w/ some snacking on walnuts/fruit between meals. Lunch has been some sort of salad w/ homemade dressing. I must admit that last night I had 2 pieces of pizza w/ onions. That definitely counts as one cheat but was a tasty reward for being so militant about the diet for 3 1/2 days.

This morning I skilleted some cajun spicy beef and brought it for lunch. I am eager to try something other than chicken for my protein today!

  6. I must admit I have had two non-PALEO meals this weekend. Yesterday I had a sausage grinder and today I had some Taco Bell. All other foods were in line w/ the diet. Did some great shopping at BJs yesterday, hauling in some walnuts, bananas, strawberries, kiwis, and lean meats.

Jen even made some chicken soup that is fantastic.
The trick is mixing it up but sticking to your gameplan.

  7. I keep on rocking it. Weight is falling off nearly as fast as the first week but that's alright with me. I had a bowl of ice cream last night w/ cut up bananas and strawberries, A VERY DELICIOUS cheat.
Overall I am very satisfied with this diet. I feel great all around and tough my way through carb cravings. It is tough, but very manageable. Todays lunch consists of chicken breast prepared in natural and DELICIOUS marinaed and homemade chicken noodle soup (w/out almost all of the noodles). Excellent!
